Please tell us a little about yourself?
I am the founder and CEO of MHM Professional Staging, LLC, an accomplished home staging and design professional, business leader, and best-selling author. MHM Professional Staging was developed in a way to become the one stop resource for anyone with decorating and design needs. Especially with the very difficult housing market the country has experienced over the past several years, home staging has become an invaluable tool for professionals related to the real estate industry enabling them to sell real estate quickly and for maximum value. I use research, careful planning, creative ideas, and hard work to assist my clients in selling their property.
No house is too big or too small to take advantage of the benefits of staging. Because I have done this for so many years, I have learned to be very adaptable and very creative when it comes to staging homes. We have had the pleasure of staging some of the smallest homes in Central Florida to the largest home in America for Bravo TV. That home was around ninety-thousand square feet located in Windermere, Florida.

How is staging used to sell homes?
We have witnessed something amazing happen this time and time again: a home sitting on the market for months, sometimes even a year, is transformed by our home staging services and the offers start pouring in. It may sound far-fetched, but more often not this is the result we see due to home staging. Home staging is the art of temporarily decorating a property with the intent to sell in today’s market. Full home staging is bringing in all furniture, art, and accessories into an otherwise empty house. As home stagers, our job is about bringing a home’s best face forward and making it more desirable to buyers.
Every home is different and home staging is about more than just tidying up, painting the walls, and opening up the drapes. It’s all about accentuating your home’s best features and bringing them front and center, while also creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that will speak to a buyer’s imagination. Sometimes homes are well decorated but need a piece here or there. This also includes doing one room. For example, some people will use a living room for a play room, but for resale it looks better as a living room. So we would bring in just the pieces needed. The way you live in a house is very different than when it is on the market. This is priced by room or by the items depending on the project. Home staging helps manipulate the potential buyer’s view on the home to see all the potential and opportunity. Selling a home is all about merchandising – would you ever purchase an iPhone with having the merchandising on the phone? – No! What about a luxury car? – No! Buying a home is the same way!
How would you describe your personal design style?
My personal design style is always changing. I love to change color palates, styles, and décor. One staple I have to include is art. I am an artist myself and intriguing and unique art pieces always make a difference.
Which interior design trends are the most popular right now?
A huge design trend we are seeing is stone. The natural stone look is IN. White onyx is the huge -it is everywhere from the types of granite counter tops, bathroom tile and showers to decor. The coffee tables with the natural stone edges or just the finish. We are seeing it in accessories as well. We are also seeing more natural wood finishes as well – especially on dining tables.
Another trend we are seeing is vintage statement lighting – especially in the kitchen and bedrooms.
Another trend is open floor plans – people cannot get enough. Everyone is wanting an entertainers dream with a connected living room, family room, kitchen, and dinning. That is where staging can help – people get overwhelmed with the options.
Which flooring style is most valuable for homeowners looking to sell?
Grey or natural looking wood. A floor that is neutral and transitional is best – so buyers can create any look or design style they want with the colors. We recommend either a real wood or the tile that resembles wood. The grays are a huge trend that will stay for a long time – but picking a natural color will always be a safe bet. One tip we always like to recommend is always getting a color consultation on wall paint color. Depending on the floor color – the paint could be deal breaker. For example – if your flooring has a cool tone – you want to make sure the paint has a cool tone to complement and enhance it.
