Winter Garden Katie MansfieldAt Floor Coverings International of Winter Garden, we love bringing you creative insight and perspectives from bloggers who are kind enough to share their wisdom and how they got started. Today we have an interview with Katie, home improvement blogger at Let’s Add Sprinkles.

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.

I  am a wife and mother of three grown children. I have been an early childhood educator for about 20 years. I love the creativity that comes with preparing for a class of preschoolers. I love decorating and believe that because styles evolve and change, a home is never really finished. My husband and I have been DIYers for the past 32 years. We have spent the last three years updating our empty nest.

2.Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?

I  started my blog as an outlet about three years ago. My brother had just had a devastating stroke. My blog was a way of dealing with it and being distracted from the tragic aftermath and his recovery. It was a way of working through my grief. Since our children had moved out, I was redecorating and doing some remodeling. Blogging helped me show others what I was doing.
The projects that I work on are fun, and it is satisfying to create blog posts around those projects with words and photographs. I like the community of blog friendships that I have made.

3. How would you describe your design style?

I  would say that for the most part, it is farmhouse/cottage. I love many elements from other design styles and sprinkle them in based on the antiques and vintage pieces we have in our home. I am most comfortable with things that have aged and start to show patina.

4. Where do you find most of your inspiration?

I  used to read magazines, but these days I get inspired by reading other blogs and looking a images from the internet. I love Pinterest!

5. Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.

I am proud of the kitchen. It was a step by step transformation that took several years. We hired out for some of it, but the design was ours. I love how it all came together.
